Deadwood Dress and Fashion 1800s
Fashionable Western Dress and Attire - Clothing for Women and Men - Dress, Suits, Hats, Coats, Boots and Vests
Deadwood Fashion High Up, Nobby and Swell
Western dress of the late 1870's - 1880’s for gold rush miners and cowboys alike were described as being way up, nobby and swell. Silk hats and white vests sometimes worn as two, wool shirts with diamond studs, straight standing celluloid bon ton collarettes, embroidered head bands, white plug hats with suspenders, silver spurs and four inch metallic hat bands would be considered quite toney garments for a young bower if accessorized with button cuffs made from nickel coins and red scarves pulled through a poker chip ring.

New cow boy was seen on the streets last night, and he was so gorgeously arrayed in new clothes, silver spurs and a four inch metalic hat band that glistened like an electric light, that the Deadwood rounders thought he was a bonanza king, and were all anxious to form his acquaintance. A Times reporter, however, solved the mysterey, as he found by a close inspection that it was John Missouri, the efficient deputy sheriff, who was out masquerading.

Jim Woods has bought a cowboy suit entire, but has not donned it all at once. Like caster oil, he takes it in broken doses. The hat, a broad rimmed with a glistening band, he is breaking in, and the leather pants, big spurs and deadly gun will be put in position within a day or two. When thus accoutered he will at least look bad.
March 19, 1884
In regard to: Woods, Jim.
As formerly stated in the Times, Jim Woods started out for a cowboy, but met with bad luck, in losing his revolver the first day and his chaps the second day. He clung to the remainder, however, until yesterday morning, when some cuss stole his hat band. He now dresses like a white man.
